Beauty Tips For Acne
Beauty Tip #1: Check Your Makeup Remover Ingredients
Avoid using oil-based makeup removing balms that contain cocoa butter or coconut oil (both pore-clogging), and check wipes for pore-clogging ingredients and fragrance. We recommend Simple® Cleansing Wipes for Sensitive Skin, PRIIA® Makeup Remover Gel, or Garnier® Micellar Water.
Beauty Tip #2: Double Cleanse at Night
Leftover traces of makeup will clog your pores and prevent your active products from penetrating properly. If you wear makeup, double cleanse your skin at night to ensure all traces of makeup have been removed before applying your active products.
Beauty Tip #3: Check Your Makeup Ingredients
Check your makeup for ingredients like cocoa butter, coconut oil, jojoba oil, and lanolin. These ingredients are pore-clogging for acne prone skin. Keep in mind "oil-free" products can still contain pore-clogging ingredients, so read all labels.
Beauty Tip #4: Opt for Mineral Makeup
Mineral makeup is more gentle on acne prone skin, and typically does not contain the pore-clogging ingredients listed above. We recommend PRIIA Cosmetics or Bare Minerals. PRIIA Cosmetics was actually founded by a fellow Face Reality Certified Acne Specialist, and is the only 100% acne-safe makeup line on the market.
Beauty Tip #5: Ditch Your Beauty Blender
Beauty Blenders and other reusable makeup sponges are porous material and cannot be 100% sterilized, meaning they're still harboring bacteria even after you clean them. Use disposable, single-use makeup sponges for liquid foundation. Single-use sponges prevent the spread of bacteria and avoid irritating your skin when applying makeup. We love Target's Up & Up Cosmetic Wedges 32 pack of sponges!
BONUS TIP: Wash Your Makeup Brushes
Wash makeup brushes weekly with an antibacterial soap. This will prevent the spread of bacteria and avoid irritating your skin when applying makeup. Make sure the makeup brush cleaner is antibacterial, does not contain pore-clogging ingredients, and does not contain fragrance.
How to Clean Your Makeup Brushes
Wet the bristles with lukewarm water
Dispense makeup brush cleaner/soap into a bowl and dip your brush into the soap
Gently swirl the brush around in your hand and work the soap into the bristles
Rinse under lukewarm water until the water runs clear
Squeeze out excess water from the bristles and reshape the brush
Let the brush dry upside down or at a downward angle
